TorqPakTechnology

TorqPak is a retrofit parallel hybrid system that uses a high efficiency hydraulic Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), often called “regenerative braking”.  The TorqPak system is particularly suited to existing, in-use heavy vehicles that have frequent start-stop drive cycles – city buses, garbage and beverage trucks –  that represent large capital investments and have long operational lives.

Hybrid vehicles are most fuel efficient in frequent start-stop drive cycles where the hybrid motor’s launch acceleration substitutes or assists the Diesel engine’s inefficient low speed operating range.  Frequent braking and deceleration events provide multiple energy recovery opportunities, improving the vehicle’s Return on Investment (ROI).

KersTech’s patented TorqPak architecture enables a Large Diameter, Flat-Format (LDFF) hydraulic motor to be retrofitted post-transmission in the vehicle’s driveline via an integrated 90° gearbox, with minimal chassis or frame modifications.

  • Large diameter provides increased torque, better electromagnetic efficiency.
  • Large diameter permits more effective cooling system design and operation.
  • Low height architecture for efficient under-chassis space utilization.

The LDFF design permits optimum use of limited driveline and chassis space, enabling simplified and affordable hybrid retrofits.  The large diameter motor provides higher efficiency and greater torque without multiple-ratio reduction gearing, minimizing cost, weight and complexity.

Heavy vehicles benefit most from a hybrid retrofit that reduces fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, and reduces brake wear.  TorqPak’s hybrid control technology enables fast, non-invasive installation – typically in one day – and optimal energy efficiency in all operating conditions.
